How Long Do I Have Before I Need To Follow ESSA’s NEW Accountability Provisions?

Now that the “Every Student Succeeds Act” has been signed into law, you might be worried about how long you might have to follow the new provisions, some of which are already being enforced.

In this great video from the Alliance for Excellent Education, the deadlines for NCLB waivers are set forth, as well as other general important dates.

Short answer: ESSA waivers are in effect until August 16th, 2016 to give states and teritories time to transition from “No Child Left Behind” to ESSA.

Regulations that will interpret and provide explicit details on the implementation of the new law will be written in a year’s time following the date that it was signed into law.
